Hayes has some new pieces that will be on display for the first time in December, so he is excited to be sharing them with us! The photo accompanying this article is one of his new pieces entitled “The Tower of Voices“ that the photographer took of part of the 911 memorial located in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
The monument is a ninety-three foot tall musical instrument comprised of forty wind chimes, honoring forty American heroes, the passengers and crew members of Flight 93 who died on September 11, 2001. It has been said, the forty wind chimes also symbolize the voices of the voices of the passengers and crew, many who called, left voice mails for, or texted their loved ones after the plane was hijacked and before it crashed after once they overthrew the hijackers. plane crashed near Shanksville, Pa., killing all on board.
Hayes discovered his love of photography in his teens. He would often borrow his father’s camera to record family vacations and a variety of events. The young Photographer also began reading and studying many different books on not just taking snapshots, but on creating great images with skill, and using a variety of techniques. What began as a young man’s curiosity, and hobby, later became a passion for Hayes as he matured.
As Hayes neared retirement, he threw his energy and focus into pursuing the art of Photography more seriously. He studied under well known, established, and successful Photographers such as the National Geographic photographer Joe McNally, Canon Explorer of Light Photographer, Rick Sammon, Nikon Ambassador, Dave Black, and Top 10 Travel photographer, Ralph Valesco. Jim began travelling as his studied, photographing scenes in states closer to home like
Indiana and Kentucky, and then abroad. Hayes took part in a variety of Photography workshops in New Mexico, Ireland, Cuba, and even France. Of course, Hayes also used those opportunities to document his journeys with stunning photographs to share with the world.
Today, Hayes is proud to have his work on display as a member of the ARTery Gallery at Front Street, and he has a wonderful wall of his photography to commemorate and celebrate his life’s journey along the way through the eye of his lens.
